Three cards: you, the other person, and the thing the two of you have built between you. Ask about one relationship and pull three cards.
Pick 3 cards from the deck
One card for you, one for the other person, one for the third thing the two of you have built. It works for a couple who have been together ten years and for someone you have had two dates with. It also works when there is no relationship yet and you want to see what you are carrying into the next one.
What it does not do is read another person's mind. The second card shows how the other person stands in this bond as far as it reaches you: their position, their pace, what they are protecting. That is a different thing from their private thoughts, and it is the honest limit of any spread.
Start with the third card, then look back at the first two and ask which of you is feeding that state. Two Cups cards next to a Swords card usually means the feeling is there and the talking is not. Two Pentacles cards mean the relationship is running on logistics, which is comfortable and quietly flattening.
Compare the first two cards for pace. The Chariot beside the Hanged Man is one person driving and one person suspended, and no amount of feeling fixes a pace difference that nobody names.
Question: why do we keep circling the same conversation? Cards: Nine of Pentacles, Two of Swords, Four of Cups. You are independent and doing well on your own, which also means you have stopped asking for things (1); he is stuck between two options and refusing to name either (2); and what you have together has gone flat, with someone waiting for an offer that never gets made (3). The reading is about an unmade decision rather than about love running out.
The second position gets used as a lie detector. It answers “where is he in this” and returns nonsense to “what is he doing tonight”.
People also draw weekly on the same relationship. A relationship does not change every seven days, so the cards start describing your anxiety instead. Once a month is plenty, or after something real happens.
And the finished reading gets carried into the next argument as evidence. Nothing kills a spread faster than “the cards said you are stalling”. Take the one thing you recognized in it, act on that, and let the other person never learn that a deck was involved. If you want the same question from the other end, our Destiny Matrix compatibility reads two birth dates as one pair chart, and card meanings cover the love angle of every card.
It can show where he is standing in the relationship: close, stalling, tired, elsewhere. It cannot report someone's feelings back to you like a message. Anyone promising that is selling certainty, which tarot does not have.
Draw it anyway. The first card describes what you bring into a relationship, the second the type of person the current pattern attracts, the third the kind of bond that keeps forming. That is a useful reading with nobody in it yet.
The Tower, Three of Swords, Five of Cups and Death are the usual suspects, and none of them means it alone. An ending shows up when several cards point the same way and the positions agree. A single hard card describes a hard patch.
Once a month, or when something actually changes. Weekly draws on the same relationship mostly measure how anxious you were that day.
